The 2026 Free New Mexico Party State Convention was held on March 7, 2026, at 2:30 PM. The meeting began with the Chair moving to approve the proposed agenda, which was as follows:
1.Treasurer’s Report
2. Speech by Chair
3. Elections: Secretary, Treasurer, Outreach Dir., Legislative Dir., Fundraising Dir., Membership Dir.
4. Election of National Delegates and Alternates
The motion passed with no discussion or objections.
The Treasurer gave his report. He reported receiving a $2500 check from the LNC to help cover legal fees. The check had been deposited in the last couple of days and had not yet gone through. He reported $738.74 in the main checking, $26.72 in savings, and $13393.43 in federal funds. He also reminded the group of the finance report due in April. His report was received without discussion, and no concerns raised.
The Chair then gave a short speech in which he congratulated the Fundraising Director, Cynthia Canner, on her showing during the run for school board. He talked about the LNC’s work on funding State Chairs for coalition-building activities, and the New Mexico Secretary of State’s recent actions having chilling effects on candidates. He concluded by encouraging members to work on county and city level elections and efforts.
The body then moved on to elections. Each election was handled by secret paper ballot. Nine of the people attending the Convention were eligible to serve as delegates at the Convention.
The first election was for Secretary. The current Secretary, Rudolph Kohn, nominated himself. There were no other nominations. The ballots came back with all nine in favor of Rudolph Kohn for Secretary. The election concluded with Rudolph Kohn continuing as Secretary.
The next election was for Treasurer. Richard Gurry nominated Bret Konsavage, the current Treasurer. There were no other nominations. Bret Konsavage got all nine votes in favor of election, and will continue as the Treasurer.
The next election was for Outreach Director. Aisla Scott, the current Outreach Director, nominated herself. There were no other nominations. Aisla Scott got all nine votes, and will continue as Outreach Director.
The next election was for Legislative Director. Dereck Scott nominated Aaron Perls, the current Legislative Director. There were no other nominations, and Aaron was voted unanimously to continue as Legislative Director.
The next election was for Fundraising Director. Cynthia Canner, the current Fundraising Director, nominated herself. There were no other nominations, and Cynthia won the vote unanimously. She will continue as Fundraising Director.
The final election was for Membership Director. There were no nominations, and the seat remains vacant.
The next order of business was to nominate delegates and alternates for the 2026 National Convention. The Board did not know the exact number of nominations, but the number for 2024 was seven. The Board asked for nominations. Rhett Trappmann and Dereck Scott nominated themselves. There were no other nominations. Since this number was less than the expected number of delegates and alternates, both were made Delegates to the 2026 National Convention without objections.
Rhett Trappmann then moved to allow Chris Luchini to speak for 5 minutes before adjourning. The vote was held by raising of hands, and seven of nine were in favor. Chris Luchini spoke for several minutes about holding onto major party status and reunifying the New Mexico parties.
The Vice Chair/Secretary then moved to adjourn sine die. The motion passed without discussion or objections.
These minutes were approved at the April 9, 2026 meeting of the SCC.
