Proposed Minutes for September 20, 2023 SCC Meeting

The Free Libertarian Party of New Mexico (FLPNM) State Central Committee (SCC) called a meeting to order at 7:13 PM on September 20, 2023. The members of the SCC present at the call to order were the Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Campaigns Director, Legislative Director, Affiliate Director, and Outreach Director. At the start of the meeting, the Secretary read the agenda at the request of the Chair:

1. Discuss recent informal meeting with Nathan Fatah about Gun Grab

2. Notes from Chair regarding signature drive

3. Changing the name of the party to make it legally distinct from other state parties

4. Appointing the head of a committee to handle the signature drive and designate funds for that purpose.

The Chair described his recent contacts regarding the situation with the governor’s recent gun control order. He explained that a press release had been sent to membership and posted to the website. He was in contact with the National Party. At a demonstration on Saturday, September 15th, he had interviewed with one television channel. He reported efforts to work the FLPNM into the lawsuit intended to fight the emergency order. He had also talked with the U.S. Concealed Carry Association and they are now aware of our organization for future collaborations.

He reported that National has sent a Cease and Desist Order to the LPNM.

He reported that a plan was being made for another event at the Bataan Memorial Park soon.

With that in mind, he opened the floor for comments and questions. There was some discussion about the specifics of the naming situation with National and the LPNM, and the possibility of a lawsuit.

During this discussion, the Fundraising Director joined the meeting.

Discussion then moved to the proposed event at Bataan Memorial Park. The initially proposed date of September 23rd was agreed to be too close to organize effectively, and the following Friday, September 29th, was proposed. The Chair moved to hold the event at 3 PM on September 29th, 2023, and to allocate $100 for this event’s organization, if needed. A vote was held by roll call, and the motion passed with 7 in favor, and the Chair abstaining.

Discussion then moved to the party name change. The Chair moved to put forward “Free New Mexico Party” as a candidate. After some discussion about the Secretary of State rules for naming, a vote was held by roll call, with all 8 attending members in favor. The discussion continued for a few minutes to ask for any other candidates for the name, but none were forthcoming.

The Chair then moved to make the name change official, changing the name from the “Free Libertarian Party of New Mexico” to the “Free New Mexico Party” (FNM Party). After some discussion, the vote was held by roll call, and all 8 members present voted in favor.

The last issue on the agenda was to start work on the signature drive for the signatures necessary to achieve minor party status. After some discussion, the Chair moved to appoint the Campaigns Director head of the Signature Drive Committee. The vote was held by roll call, with all 8 attending members in favor.

Then, the Chair opened the floor for comments and questions. There was some discussion about funding requirements for the signature drive and the parameters of the signature drive.

Finally, the Chair moved to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed without objection, and the FNM Party SCC stood adjourned at 8:18 PM.
